Definition of High Blood Pressure or
Hypertension :
Before
knowing this, understand what this "blood

organs to function. Our cardiovascular system does the work of delivering this
blood. The heart plays a vital role in this process. The heartbeat makes a

Pressure.

Blood Pressure Reading :
After
checking BP, two numbers are spoken to you, then it's told that BP is normal,

BP is 120/80… is normal", or
"Your
BP is 140/90… increased", or
"Your
BP is 90/60…. is less"
In medical
terms, 120/80 BP readings are read as "120 over 80 Millimeters of
Mercury" or "120/80 mmHg".
Systolic Blood Pressure: The primary or upper number
indicates the Systolic Blood Pressure, which suggests that the blood is
applying pressure on the artery walls when the heart is beating.
Diastolic Blood Pressure: The second or lower number indicates
Diastolic Blood Pressure, which suggests that the blood is applying pressure on
the artery walls when the heart rests between two beats.
Now, from the
figure 120/80 mmHg we can say that
your Systolic blood pressure is 120 and Diastolic blood pressure is 80.
Numbers matters more :
Usually
upper number i.e. Systolic blood pressure matters more because it provides the
simplest idea of the danger of attack or stroke.
If the value
of blood pressure is increasing, then we keep it within the category of
hypertension.

Causes of High Blood Pressure or
Hypertension :
The reason for
hypertension is unknown in more than 90% of cases, but there are many risk factors which will cause high BP disease -
1) Old age: With increasing age, the
danger of getting high BP also increases. However, now this disease is
additionally found among the youth.
2) Family History: If someone in your
family has high BP then chances of getting this disease also increase.
3) Temperature: In many cases, it's been
found that BP remains low when the temperature is high and BP becomes high when
the temperature is low. So if you reside in cold places then your BP could also
be higher. However, it's more common to occur after the age of 65 years.
4) Ethnic background: Just in case of
hypertension, your ethnic background is additionally important. It's been found
that individuals of African and South Asian ancestry have a better risk of

5) Obesity: Obesity itself may be a

13) Diabetes: The probability of getting

or drinking :
Drinking too

Being happy

your blood pressure. But this doesn't mean that taking more magnesium will
reduce your BP. Usually, if you're taking a healthy diet then you get enough
magnesium in it. It's found in grains, green leafy vegetables, dried peas,
cabbage, and beans. Even in sea-food, it's present in sufficient quantity.
Garlic: Some studies have found that eating
garlic also reduces blood pressure. Aside from this, it's also helpful in
reducing some sorts of cancer and cholesterol.
Fish Oils: "Omega-3 fatty acids" are
found in fish like mackerel and salmon and its consumption are often helpful in
reducing high BP.

Pressure :
The following

• Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE)
inhibitors
• Angiotensin-II Receptor Blocker (ARB)
• Diuretics
• Beta-blockers

• Alpha-blockers
